History

Established for over 50 years, BSS is a professional part time arts school providing tuition in all areas of performing arts, specialising in Dance, Drama and Musical Theatre. Train for fun, fitness, confidence or towards a professional career in a friendly and supportive environment

Originally founded by Miss Joyce Hart, BSS has always succeeded in turning out experienced, knowledgable, equipped, fully rounded individuals that have experienced professional work through us and are in a position to enter into further arts based college education, teaching, move straight into the industry or into whatever career they choose with confidence in themselves

The schools team of experienced professional staff ensure a hard working friendly atmosphere, where students can make many happy memories and new friends whilst achieving results to be proud of

Both Principals of the School; Cherry Aldous & Melanie Osborne, have experienced full time professional dance/performing arts careers in both stage & television. Our 'Company' of teachers & guest teachers are currently working within the industry. Regular workshops with current leading West End commercial dancers & choreographers enable students to experience an eclectic range of skills whilst forging connections with working professionals

BSS is very proud to have Alan Harding as our Patron of the school. Alan is a highly respected working choreographer and Casting Director with credits including: Tonight at the London Palladium, Boogie Nights, Cunard Cruises and numerous West End, Commercial and TV engagements

Alongside accredited examinations, 'Specialist Workshops' are a staple part of curriculum to zone in on specific skills. Most of these are held at the school, but some are national/international i.e.: Pineapple London, stunting camps at the University of Central Florida

We encourage students to actually work within the industry. Our students work in theatre, TV/Film, Modelling, Cruise ships, Promotions & Radio. They are auditioned and represented by specific London Casting Agencies

Examinations are taken through to teacher status in: Ballet – Modern Jazz/ Street – Tap – Acrobatics – Lyrical – Freestyle – Singing – Drama. Students gain internationally recognised qualifications via examination boards: BTDA (British Theatre Dance Association) / RAD (Royal Academy of Dance) / LAMDA (London Academy of Dramatic Art) LCM (London College of Music)

BSS is a registered ‘Children's University Destination’ where children can build up their passport points

Scholarships may also be obtained – Over the years students have gained thousands of pounds to help towards their future careers

Alongside individual engagements, all students have the opportunity to perform in major theatres as part of our BSS annual shows and All Stars Experience projects. We also perform regularly at the Royal Albert Hall, West End London Theatres including Her Majesty's & Sadlers Wells, the O2 Arena & also at Disneyland Paris. We were very proud to have received written accreditation from Disney for outstanding performances. Students are able to compete at National and International level

Many of our events raise proceeds that are re-invested back into the school. We endorse regular fund raising to help all students be able to ‘experience & achieve’ without being held back by finances. Because we are such a large school, BSS are able to keep our lesson prices to a minimum
